Mega Downloads - Free Games
| The Ardennes Offensive (by SSG) |
Download it from the official SSG page (about 6MB)
|
SSG released latest version of The Ardennes Offensive for free download, because they didn't want to waste their efforts that they had used for a sequel, which was never released.
I don't know much about the game yet, but it's a strategy alright. [10.12.] Well, I got other things to do, so I won't be writing anything major here. It's a hex strategy though. I don't know if it's any good.

| B17 Flying Fortress (by Microprose) |
Download it from www.bombs-away.net (about 3,3MB) |
The classic Flying Fortress sim by Microprose.
Flight sim by Microprose, which puts you behind the flight stick of a
B-17 long range bomber during World War II. The entire game consists of
repetitive "carpet" bomb runs, during which you will have to serve as
pilot, navigator, bombardier and gunner (eight of them, actually) of the
bomber. Game is very realistic and very harsh, so unless you want an
ulcer I would recommend downshifting the difficulty level a tad bit.

| Betrayal at Krondor (1993(?) by Sierra) |
Download it here (Sierra's FTP, about 11MB) | Betrayal at Krondor was one of the first role playing games that had a 3D world. It's very primitive 3D, but it works. It's still one of the best rpg's of all time. If you don't like reading, this isn't the game for you. Betrayal at Krondor relies heavily on text to tell the story. The plot is very good for a computer game, mainly because a real fantasy book writer, Raymond E. Feist, was involved with it.
The game is divided to 9 chapters, which all are independent from eachother. You are free to do anything inside a chapter, but the plot will continue only when you do what you have to do to get forward. There are also very much small plots around the game that aren't necessary to solve, but they add a whole lot to the environment. Betrayal at Krondor is a true classic. Recommended! |
| Dink Smallwood |
Download it from the official page (24MB)
|
Dink Smallwood was re-released as freeware in October 1999 (previous shareware). In this 25Mb game, you control Dink Smallwood, a pig farmer. Although he is a peasant, he dreams of going on an adventure to prove that he is a great hero. This game is lots of fun and quite humorous as well.
Dink is incredibly fun and has various features like spells, weapons, items, shops, experience and level ups, and best of all, a dmod creator and player. This feature allows you to play even more Dink worlds than the two world that it comes with, though some of the dmods don't work. These dmods often continue Dink's adventure, but the dmod editor is versatile enough that other types of game, i.e. arkanoid, can be created. If you have a sense of humor and enjoy rpg's, you will love Dink Smallwood. More dmods may be downloaded at the Dink homepage or at various fan pages.

| Elite & Elite Plus (by David Braben and Ian Bell) |
Download it from the Ian Bell's page (not much)
|
It's the Elite (originally released 1984) and Elite Plus (VGA version, 1991) by David Braben and Ian Bell. Now free.
Elite and Elite Plus were, and still are excellent space sims. This game is massive! There is a virtual universe, filled with hundred's, probably thousands of planets, each with it's own terrain and atmosphere. Very in-depth game, you can modify your ship any way you want at one of the many
MANY on and off world star-ports. The graphics are excellent..for it's time. Space combat can get a bit tedious, but you can usually get the job done. So, if your looking for a very in depth, (so in-depth its almost tedious...but still a lot of fun), very realistic, and VERY non-linear space sim, download this game!

Nothing here yet.
You guessed it, description needed, though you can find one from the official pages.

| Jetpack & Squarez Deluxe |
| Download them from the official page |
These games actually have not much in common except they've been made by the same person, and perhaps both can be categorized as puzzle games, although Jetpack is more of a platformer - labyrinth game. The maker has chosen to spread these games bundled together, anyway it's just as fine, because both of them are quality entertaiment (especially for the price).
I have to warn you, these games are very addictive (just ask my sister - and we only had one PC, I didn't think fondly of this game then) and the two-player mode is quite fun as well - there's a misdesign in it though - instead of counting regular points for the players, the game ought to keep score on matches won or something more original, as it's quite boring when the other player loses the other is expected just to continue his/her own. Nevermind that though, you can always press esc and start another one (and keep score manually, for that matter). So, this game is very, very recommended.

| Download it from the official Ken's Labyrinth homepage (0,9MB) | One of the old 3D first person shooters.

| Molez |
| Download it from the official page (1,7MB) |
Another Finnish shareware classic released as freeware after development had stopped. Quite good game for 2-4 players.
More detailed description available at the official page.

| Outbound |
| Download it from Here.10,1 (MB) |
Outbound is a combat shooter set in the far future, on eight different
planets, in which you guide your A.M.V. (Armored Mobile Vehicle) over
varied and treacherous terrain, destroying enemy units to achieve each
mission objective.
This game features superior graphics and fluid control. Gameplay
resembles that of Diablo, but with a more MechWarrior feel,
giving you the best of both worlds. Power-ups for health and
special items, like the pulse cannon, make the weaponry and gameplay
more interesting and challenging. One of the coolest power -ups you
can get is the laser-guided missle launcher, which locks onto a
target, allowing you to fire on them from a distance, even you are
desperately fleeing enemy fire from all directions.

| Ports of Call |
Download it from the official page (0,7MB)
|
Ports of Call is the only ship based trading game that spans the globe. You start with $4 million to finance your empire. You first buy ships (low-grade, medium-grade, and high-grade) and try to make money by shipping loads between major cities. If you manage well, your empire can last a long
time. You must manage gas, storms, pirates, customs, and other challenges. This game is much better on the Amiga (but I can't find it free for that platform, the graphics were cutting-edge). --Kevin Devine
It was shareware, now free (you must register at the official site, although it's free).

| Triplane Turmoil |
| Download it from the Dodekaedron Software web pages (1,9MB) | Read the Dodekaedron homepage. :-)

| Wings 1.40 |
| Download it from the official page (3,1MB) |
This is Finnish shareware gaming culture at it's best. Classic really. The closest match in English for the genre is "cave flying" (luolalentely in Finnish), but it doesn't give the game the credit it deserves.
Wings is simple-looking, but it needs skill and practice to master. For Wings, you need atleast one other player and a good keyboard (if you play on the same computer). Modem and serial game included, though I had some problems with them. They should work though. For 1-8 players (there isn't much for single player to do though). Max 4 players on one computer.
The programmer released the full version as freeware after he stopped programming it some time ago.
Note! This isn't the old biplane flying game, if you wondered.

An ASCII adventure game.
